Rochester is an exciting city with natural wonders and endless experiences for everyone to enjoy!  Situated in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, Rochester is known as a cultural hub with tons of things to do.  From family-friendly activities to attending games for professional sports teams to engaging in the vibrant arts scene at local museums and galleries to experiencing distinct Rochesterian cuisine (including Rochester's famous "garbage plate"), there is certainly something for everyone to participate in and make lasting memories!  With the scenic Erie Canal, Genesee River, and Lake Ontario so close and world-class attractions like The Strong National Museum of Play and the International Museum of Photography, it is hard to decide which place to visit first.

Corn Hill Arts Festival (July)

  • An annual arts and crafts festival with great music, food, and family fun!


Lilac Festival (May)

  • Largest free festival in Rochester with various musical events, gardens, and exhibits for all ages.


The Rochester International Jazz Festival (June, 9 days long)

  • One of the most popular jazz festivals in the nation that offers free concerts on outdoor stages.


Cobbs Hill Reservoir

  • This concrete reservoir is located on a hill and features a fountain as well as a granite Greek Revival gatehouse, and more.


Erie Canal

  • Great for walking and biking


Park Avenue

  • Many shops, cafés, and restaurants are located along this hip tree-lined avenue.


Pittsford Plaza

  • Cinema, restaurants, shops, Barnes & Noble, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, etc.


Pittsford Village Farmers Market

  • Smaller than the Rochester Public Market, but still offers great produce.

  • A very traditional market that offers one of the best fall shopping experiences in Rochester.

  • Excellent shops, cafés, and restaurants along the Erie Canal in Pittsford, NY.


The East End (Downtown)

  • From the intersection of Gibbs Street and East Avenue down to Alexander Street this destination is filled with many restaurants, cafés, entertainment and is a popular location for the arts.


The Rochester Public Market

  • The public market is a center for alimentary and cultural exchange in Rochester. 


The South Wedge

The Webster Arboretum

  • The Webster Arboretum at Kent Park is a quiet and peaceful park with some of the most beautiful gardens and trees in western New York.


Bristol Mountain (Bristol, NY)

  • Enjoy fall chairlifts to the summit of Bristol Mountain as well as skiing and snowboarding down the mountain during the winter months.

Canandaigua Lake (Canandaigua, NY)

Ganondagan State Historic Site (Victor, NY)

  • A national historic landmark and the only NYS Historic Site dedicated to a Native American theme and the only Seneca town developed and interpreted in the United       States.  Features a full-size Seneca Bark Longhouse and a Seneca Art & Culture Center. They also host a Native American Winter Arts Festival and an Indigenous Music & Arts Festival during the year. 


Herkimer Diamond Mines (Herkimer, NY)

  • Visit this world-famous diamond mine where the prospects are endless and you can keep everything you find!  Check out the Miners’ Village or stay at the Herkimer Diamond Mines KOA Resort Campground and enjoy the various activities and amenities that are offered.


It’s A Wonderful Life  Festival (Seneca Falls, NY) (December) 

  • Take a walking tour of the town that inspired scenes from the famous movie, It’s A Wonderful Life.   The annual festival each December includes different events that celebrate the classic film.

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (Seneca Falls, NY)

Skaneateles Lake (Skaneateles, NY)

Corbett's Glen Nature Park (Brighton, NY)

  • This secluded park includes trails run by meadows and wetlands as well as waterfalls.  It is a beautiful local park filled with native birds and wildlife.


Ellison Park (Rochester, NY)

  • A park with natural woodlands and steep slopes that is great for hiking and sledding.  A disc golf course and tennis courts are also located in the park along with athletic fields and playgrounds.


Fair Haven Beach State Park (Fair Haven, NY)

  • One of the best public lakefronts in Upstate NY, this park features towering shoreline bluffs, sandy beaches, and hilly woodlands with campgrounds and cabins areas nearby.


Hamlin Beach State Park (Hamlin, NY) 

  • This park has tent and trailer campsites, clear water, and sandy beaches. Activities in the park include biking, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.


Highland Park (Rochester, NY)

  • Highland Park, also known as Highland Botanical Park, is a beautiful local park filled with walking trails, lilac trees, and an arboretum. 


Irondequoit Bay State Marine Park (Irondequoit, NY)

  • A launch site for small boats or power boats with fishing access to Lake Ontario.


Keuka Lake State Park (Bluff Point, NY)

  • Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes region this park offers hiking trails and a swimming beach as well as hunting, fishing, and cross-country skiing.  Camping is also available.


Letchworth State Park (Castile, NY)

  • One of the best attractions in NYS and often called the “Grand Canyon of the East”, this park has stunning scenery and excellent hiking trails, performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, whitewater rafting, kayaking, a pool for swimming, and hot air ballooning!


Mendon Ponds Park (Honeoye Falls, NY)

  • The largest Monroe County Park, which features 2,500 acres of woodlands, ponds, wetlands, and glacially created landforms.  Common activities include hiking scenic trails, birdwatching, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, geocaching, kayaking/canoeing, orienteering, sledding, and snowshoeing. 


Sampson State Park (Romulus, NY)

  • This park features camping and boating as the primary recreational activities.


Seneca Lake State Park (Geneva, NY)

  • This park offers excellent marinas and a relaxing atmosphere for swimmers and picnickers alike. A playground and several playgrounds are available.  Activities include biking, fishing, hunting, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing.  There is no camping permitted in this park.


Stony Brook State Park (Dansville, NY)

  • Explore beautiful woodlands, waterfalls, and rock formations while camping, picnicking, swimming, or hiking.


Taughannock Falls State Park (Trumansburg, NY)

  • This park offers gorge and rim trail views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail.  Campsites and cabins overlook Cayuga Lake and a multi-use trail—hiking, cross-country skiing—winds past sledding slopes and natural skating ponds. 


Watkins Glen State Park (Watkins Glen, NY)

  • The most famous park in the Finger Lakes region, which offers hiking, fishing, and camping for visitors along with scenic views and many activities to participate in throughout the year.
